About Lisa
Lisa Bellora is a Residential Landscape Designer who focuses on regenerating landscapes. Her designs feature low water, low maintenance, environmentally friendly landscapes.
The Watershed Approach to landscaping is paramount in the creation of garden design. Lisa incorporates rain gardens in nearly every design, keeping the rain water available to plants in the garden.
Lisa's formal education includes a B.S. in Chemistry and A.S. in Landscape Design. She worked nearly 10 years researching the metabolic fate of agricultural chemicals in the environment. Her hobby of organic gardening became a second career in 2006 when she started a business helping people design and maintain their gardens in the San Diego region. She also worked several years for Landscape Logic, a premier landscape contracting company as a plant, irrigation, and soil specialist.
In Lisa's words: "my design focus is to create residential landscapes where the front yard harmonizes with the architecture of the house while the back yard serves the needs of the client. I am also passionate about designing spaces that ‘give back’ to the environment; using local or repurposed materials, using plants that are native to our climate, creating gardens that will nurture life, and keeping precious water onsite. I love working with people and partnering with them to create a place of beauty and purpose.”
Collaborating with others in the landscape field is important to the success of Ornamental Gardens. Lisa works with local C-27 licensed Landscape Contractors who implement her designs. She also collaborates with other designers, landscape architects, and experts.
Lisa adheres to a code of professional standards, encourages continuing education, and stays up-to-date about new developments and latest trends throughout the field. She does this by attending seminars, classes, and talks by experts in her field. She additionally is an active member of APLD (the Association of Professional Landscape Designers), is a G3 Certified Watershed Wise Landscape professional, is part of the EPA Watersense program, is a CLCA Certified Water Manager, and is a MWD Qualified Water Efficient Landscape Auditor.
In addition, Lisa donates time to the community. She co-designed two large planter beds in Balboa Park, co-designed a yard for a City Heights refresh project, has donated design consultations to the San Diego Water Conservation Garden and the San Diego Spring and Fall Home and Garden shows.
